Fantastically painted, even if you didn't start in the right place, it turned out great. I love the mood of the sky and water.
Painting sky in around objects...so difficult unless you are deliberately going for a swishy wavering impressionistic look. Then bash the sky in with nary a care. But otherwise, paint the sky first, as you discovered. I like this piece and the colors!
Family lore has it that we are Jamestown descendants...but when I checked the J'town site my relative's name was listed as "questionable". So then I knew he REALLY was my relative! ;->
Hard but great to discover things by ourselves! You'll surely remember to paint backgrounds first :)
This piece is great, I love the colours and the water movement!
Beautiful! It may have been a pain to paint in the sky afterward but it gives the picture a more natural look. I often think ship pictures look wrong somehow, but you have the details right, even down to the little anchor. Well done! Would you mind if I print a copy for myself? (It's OK to say no.)
Anybody who would like to can make a copy! I'm flattered you asked!
This is gorgoeus, the colors are beautiful! I've printed a copy for my son; he's gonna love it!
Wow, this is lovely! What I always tell my son, we learn from our mistakes...and you won't do that one again! But I think the way it turned out looks great. :)
Love it , Melinama. I think I saw Fernando wearing a bandana standing proudly on the deck of your vessel....or was that just another case of my overactive imagination ???? I recently took up my paintbrush and acrylics to paint a picture for my grandbaby-to-be. It turned to be a very colorful impressionist meadow...but I did paint the sky first. Then, I had A LOT of pale blue paint left, so I decorated a small wooden bookshelf I found at Goodwill and a little wooden chair I got years ago at an auction....later adding some white and pink. I think I will try another canvas soon..even though I am not very good...I do like color, and painting is such fun. You have inspired me ! Thank you.
The water is really well done. I personally like the style and texture.
Update... I printed your picture for my son. He was very pleased! I thought he'd cut it out like he does with many of the scribbled race cars he asks me to draw for him, but he actually pulled out some tape, went to his room, and arranged it on his wall right next to the lightswitch. Then he stepped back and admired it and decided "I like blue!" Excellent work!
