"Mothering Sunday," a second music video made with AI: thoughts

After I made that last video, William Glenn, one of my "friends" on Facebook ripped into me saying it was "generic." I understand what he was complaining about, of course, but I also know I would never have made any video of that song at all without this new tool. Likewise this song Mothering Sunday, which has always been one of my very favorites: I've been making music videos for more than a decade but never had the skills to bring my inner vision of this song to life. When I was arranging it with the magnificent genius pianist Jacqueline Schwab, we spoke in images, I shared with her the clear but dreamlike pictures in my head and together we created it. Making the video with ChatGPT felt like a long, charming conversation with a friend, except I never had to say "please" or "thank you" (though I wanted to, many times).



This song wrenches at my heart every time I hear it, from this distance it paints such a sweetly nostalgic picture of a time we never lived.
