I once made the mistake of telling a class of writing students that I was a good speller. "Use me as a dictionary," I said. "It might save time."

A few minutes later a student asked me to spell diarrhea. I had to look it up. The next question was for cappuccino.

"JUST USE THE DICTIONARY, OK?" I said.

I am appalled and amused at the pervasive use of apostrophes in plurals . . . like the Oreo's here.

I see it almost every day . . . Pizza's, car's, donut's.

URGH!

I once heard a comedian talk about country road produce stand signs, and the common misspellings...best of which was "Can'taloupes"...which you see here often...then he asked, "Is this a contraction for the less common "Cannotaloupe"? LOL...
