"First of all, I don't even know what this is..."

I Am Better Than Your Kids is a must-see site. The author has collected kids art posted around the net and graded it, saying:
If you work in an office with lots of people, chances are that you work with a person who hangs pictures up that their kids have drawn. The pictures are always of some stupid flower or a tree with wheels. These pictures suck; I could draw pictures much better. In fact, I can spell, do math and run faster than your kids. So being that my skills are obviously superior to those of children, I've taken the liberty to judge art work done by other kids on the internet. I'll be assigning a grade A through F for each piece...
We laughed inordinately. Via Cynical-C.

The flag one is hilarious AND puzzling - because I have a little quiz game I sometimes use with my students, and one of the questions is:

What are the colours of the US flag?

And ALWAYS some students include yellow in the answer. They say it's because of the stars. They expect stars to be yellow, apparently. And Japanese children always colour the sun red, probably because of the Japanese flag.

Do US children colour stars yellow, usually?

I guess that I must have a poor sense of humor. Swearing doesn't make something funny and I never thought that judging other people "worse" than me was a way to boost my own sense of being.

Then again I have kids and love their sense of expression. Plus I'm a blogin Idiot and would rather get my kicks by stomping the crap out of my own shit than somebody elses.

Take care
Michael

Hello, via Michele's Meet & Greet!

That site was hilarious! I personally love kids art, so I thought the pictures were all precious! But still, it was funny to read the commentary and yours as well.

That must be the guy who left an anonymous comment at my youngest son's art site, which is for family and MY friends only and likely not listed in a search engine, telling him how awful it was. Which was promptly deleted.

I would be extremely curious to see some of the author's art-work from when they were the same age as the children in question. Pardon me while I use a profanity... ASSHOLE! They're kids for crying out loud. They are still mastering motor skills, spelling and math. I guess it takes a very intelligent and big person to be able to do these things better than a child.

Loser!

Hmm, Michael and Square 1 seem to be providing examples of the "satire-is-dead" portion of our program. Lighten up. I have kids too. I have their art on my wall. I have art they did 20 years ago on my wall! I have my nieces' art on my wall! I have my mentee's art on my wall! They also all get an F! So do many famous painters!

Perhaps that is true for me in this case, and I do apologize for my outburst. I simply fail to see the humor in saying derogatory things about children, simply because they obviously can't be expected to perform at the same level as an adult, nor should they be expected to. They are also not emotionally mature enough to understand the idea of satire, and as a parent I think I would feel very badly should my child come across such nasty comments about their own artwork. Would it earn an F by this persons standards? Most certainly, but they don't need to hear that. Maybe I'm being a bit ridiculous... but that is how I feel.

I like your site and appreciate most of the humor that you provide. Some satire is purely mean. Where do you draw the line?
It's all in good fun. We can poke fun at cripples, minorities, foreigners, uneducated, southerners…

Take your pick. Where is it funny and where is it mean spirited?

Take Care
