Mike does Illustration Friday: "Momentum"

Mikes says: The idea that water molecules stick to each enough to make a wave and then the upper layer topples when the wave breaks has always amazed me. I left fish and surfers out of this picture to experiment with water effects using acrylics.

How do you get those very distinctn sharp lines?

Thanks for the kind words. The process was to draw the lines and shapes, then mask areas with very thin tape, 1/4th inch or less. You have to burnish the tape to keep in down. I then painted, spattered water over the undried acrylic, and dried it. Then the whole thing was covered with GAC 500 which serves as a surface leveler. I then did some overlays of color to add depth.

Wow! Thas is quite a process... but quite worth the outcome. Hope you don't mind if I print it.

Alma, thanks for asking and yes you may print the picture. The taping, overpainting, sprinkling water and GACing is actually quite relaxing. The trick is seeing how to get some control of accidental effects.
