The modern age is too modern.

I was at a house concert tonight. A couple minutes into the second piece one of the performers held up her hand and said, "Sorry, that was my pager."

She left the room and went into the kitchen and started beep-beep-communing away with her pager while the other performers and we the audience sat in utter, stunned silence.

After quite a while she came back in and the concert resumed.

I've heard pagers and cellphones go off in the audiences of many events - and even in churches and temples - but this was the first time I saw a performer bring an event to a complete halt to answer a page.
