"Wallowing in Excess"

What I want to read next: "American Mania: When More Is Not Enough," by Dr. Peter C. Whybrow. An abstract from Sunday's The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
When is enough, enough? And when does enough become excess?
These are questions that most of us have preferred to ignore. Rather than savoring the pleasures of affluence we have achieved, we have abandoned the laws of thrift and embraced insatiable desire. America's pursuit of prosperity has become, in Alexis de Tocqueville's description, a "restless, burning passion that increases with satisfaction." Seduced by the novelty and the opportunities afforded by our wealth, we have passed beyond need and fallen into an addictive striving for more: for more money, more speed, more house, more car, more food, more choice and more power.
