[New York]: In search of fun memorization games
Hi all,
I'm working on a project for work and wanted to know if any of you know fun games that would help and motivate busy people to memorize several short phrases. I need to get people in my office to learn some stuff and I have the capacity to give cheap prizes (treats, toys from Chinatown) if necessary. Any ideas?

When I want my students to memorize something [for example, irregular verbs] , I tell them to use all their senses : see it, say it, write it...over and over. I tell them to buy index cards and write the words on them ...then leave the cards all over the place [frig door, on the kitchen table, the bathroom mirror, etc].
My mom used to do word association and it usually worked pretty well, but one time when she met my aunt's boyfriend it backfired. His name was Walt Halus so she associated it with callus, but when she introduced him around she called him Walt Blister. When she laughingly explained her boo-boo to him he remarked, "at least you didn't associate my name with phallus, Lord only knows what you would have called me then!"
Good story , Sylvia !!! And the moral is : Be careful with those mind games. In 10th grade Biology, I had to memorize the order of the classification of animals [which is : Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Group, Species] Years later when I was trying to teach my students memory techniques , I remembered that I made a sentence using the first letter of each part of that order, and I STILL remembered the sentence...Kay poured coffee on Freddy Gardiner's [Pants?]...hmmm...I was stuck...What did ''p'' stand for ????...no ...that's not right...then it came to me...SHIRT...It was an ''s'' for ''species''...I was so proud !!! [p.s. Kay and Freddy were my classmates....Freddy being a 6' 5'' Neanderthal with the nickname Bear who used to tip my desk sideways while I was sitting in it and who nearly drowned me on our class trip...I knew that I would never forget him].
Too funny! Thanks, all.
