An excellent joke

From Richard Lawrence Cohen...

Old lady in the Bronx: "Did you see what’s happening in Poland?"
Second old lady: "I don’t see nothing, I live in the back."

Hey, thanks for the link, Melinama! And for your comments on my blog. Some people didn't get that joke -- I think you had to be there, looking out onto the back alley with its laundry lines strung between apartment windows. It's a Henny Youngman joke originally.

Yes, that sounds like a NY joke. I lived in an Upper West Side apartment for a while and my window looked out on a vacuum of space between two walls. What do you call that space? The air well? My roommate once threw her alarm clock out the window. It hit the bottom of that dark hollow and kept ringing.

air shaft?

("air well" sounds interesting but I think I made that up. I recently visited a home and commented on the color of the walls. "Buttersquash" I called it, not realizing that was a made-up word too.)
