Here is a big reservoir just ten minutes from my house. This is regarded as a major "outdoors" site, but it's Mississippi style; there are no walking trails. You can't go swimming. You can boat, or you can sit at a picnic table on a concrete area and have a picnic. This is so Mississippi - nowhere to walk, but a beautiful drive-in picnic site...

I know that folks in Louisiana are working toward the blazing of new trails in some of the state's natural areas ... maybe Mississippi will soon do that, too.

There are lots of beautiful places in Mississippi. One of my favorites is the Clark Creek Natural Area in Pond, MS. Really nice hiking trail there!

You can swim in the Ross Barnett Reservoir, but swim very fast. Those blasted aligators swim really fast, too. All those people dumping fish cleaning remains in the water have made those big honking 'gator dang near friendly.
