Fluffy Mackerel Pudding

This morning's chortle, from an infamous gallery of 1970s Weight Watchers recipe cards at Candyboots:

"Once upon a time the world was young and the words "mackerel" and "pudding" existed far, far away from one another.

"One day, that all changed. And then, whoever was responsible somehow thought the word fluffy would help.

"Oh, and eggs, too."

Finally the comments let me in!

Aren't those cards a hoot? I found them a couple of years ago, and every now and then I link to one in my blog. They crack me up! Do you think anyone actually prepared this and attempted to serve it? BARF!

Anyway, Michele sent me, but I've been here before. Have a lovely day!

There is a dish in Japan called chawanmushi. It's a steamed egg custard, only not sweet. It has mushrooms and fish and things in it.

The first time I was confronted with it I thought it was perverse. It should be SWEET, I thought. It turned out to be very good.
